Dallas Premier Announces 2010 Roster Prepared to Take Next Step
DALLAS, TX (05/20/10) - The Dallas Premier of the Big Sky South Conference of the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) promotes the Club to the ample soccer base in the Dallas area with a motto of “The Next Step in Women’s Soccer.” For the many aspiring female youth soccer players this has created and ignited a renewed passion by letting them know there is a team and a league that will allow them to continue their dreams of playing soccer at a high level and increasing their chances of one day playing professionally. Heading into the 2010 season The Next Step in Women’s Soccer for the Dallas Premier is to finish what they started their inaugural season. That next step is nothing less than the 2010 WPSL National Championship.
Today’s announcement of the 2010 roster is the culmination of what Owner and General Manager Paul Marshall started planning August 1st 2009 as he stood looking at the 3-0 scoreboard of the semifinal game at last years Final Four at Adelphi College in Long Island, New York won by eventual National Champion Long Island Fury.  “That single loss stuck in my craw like nothing I can remember.” Down but not out, Marshall began at that moment orchestrating a total upgrading of his entire organization and implementing his plan to bring the National Championship to his Premier club in 2010. Upgrading the coaching staff was first on the list. “It didn’t take but one talk with Brian Flanagan and I knew he was the one I needed to hire for my head coach. He understood and shared my vision for the club and where I wanted to go with it. He promised me 110%, and that’s exactly what he has given. But most of all I needed a coach this time with the utmost character and integrity. Brian has impeccable coaching credentials, he is an extreme judge of soccer talent, he is very well connected in the soccer community and he knows what it takes to be a champion but most of all he has character and integrity.” Second on Marshall’s list was to upgrade their venue. He chose the stadium field at the University of Texas at Dallas. "The soccer stadium at UTD is a tremendous upgrade from last year's venue and gives our team a home field with not only a great look but one that matches our quality of play... After our tremendous upgrade in our coaching staff, I was determined to make the same upgrade in where these ladies played their home games. In securing UTD, where a lot of these young ladies played in the Lake Highlands Classic League games growing up, we have a familiar field and a great atmosphere to play in." Choosing UTD as a home venue allowed Marshall to make and win the bid to host the 2010 Final Four in Dallas. "Everybody involved with Dallas Premier are equally humbled as well as excited that we will be hosting the 2010 WPSL Final Four," said Marshall. "After an exciting first season in 2009 where we made it to the Final Four ourselves, we thank the WPSL for their display of confidence in awarding us the bid. I personally am dedicated to showcasing our organization and our city to the rest of the WPSL by putting on the best Final Four event in the league's history." The last piece to the puzzle was to upgrade the team. This was accomplished with the first upgrade, Brian Flanagan, assistant Brad Flanagan, Goalie coach Will Searls, and trainer Steve Parker. “The combined resources of the entire coaching staff scoured through tryouts and assembled this 2010 roster we have announced today. With an emphasis on not just talented but hard working and dedicated players, we feel we have upgraded this years team from last years exceptional team.
This years roster has only seven returning players from last years 25 man roster. Returning are all three of the Premier’s All-WPSL selections. MF Kendall Juett, F Erin Scott, and D Alicia Marshall all earned All WPSL honors along with also being named to the 2009 All Big Sky Conference Team. Juett, one of the Premier captains last season, was selected as the Big Sky Conference Player of the Year after finishing the regular season with 4 goals and 6 assists. She added the game winning goal and an assist in the 3-2 OT win in the Big Sky Championship against the Arizona Rush and was named Offensive Player of the Game for her efforts finishing the season with 5 goals and 7 assists. Forward Erin Scott returns with her high octane scoring after finishing the season as the WPSL's second leading scorer in the nation with 9 goals and 3 assists in just 7 games played. Having literally scored at will during the regular season, the Premier sorely missed her talents when prior commitments kept the Rice University forward from last year playoffs and Final Four. Defender Alicia Marshall brings her tough nosed defensive skills back to the Premier for the 2010 season. Her win every ball mentality and her excellent in the air abilities and pin point passes out of the back helped win her Defender of the Game honors 4 times during the regular season and also the Defensive Player of the Game award in the 3-2 OT win in the Big Sky Conference Championship in Tucson, AZ against the AZ Rush. Marshall added 3 goals and 4 assists on the season. Flanagan looks for the 3 honorees to bring their hard work and dedication back and is excited about what they will mean to the club. "I am so excited with the return of these three ladies. We knew there was the possibility with Kendall and Alicia trying out with the WPS teams that they may not be back. But when word came that they would, we were ecstatic. And I told Paul, (Owner and General Manager Paul Marshall) I had to have Erin Scott, so when she gave word she was back, I was juiced. Every player on this team is important but we will expect these three to bring leadership. With the honors come the responsibilities. They've set high marks last season and if this team is going to improve from last year these ladies are going to have to lead the way and have a better season than last years." Also returning from last year’s national semifinalists are Forwards former North Texas and local star Heather Hutyra and  Baylor University’s all time leading scorer and BU soccer Hall of famer Ginny Rosario-Hall along with Florida Southern’s record holder Princess Haley.  Haley is the daughter of retired NFL 5 time Super Bowl winner superstar Charles Haley. Tulsa University freshman rising star D Rachel Garcia is also back with the Premier.
Flanagan isn’t just interested in talent, he believes championships are won with hard working and dedicated players that are talented. So in order to upgrade this years team Flanagan has brought in that very element with each player he has selected.
This includes the likes of Notre Dame stars F Melissa Henderson and D Jessica Schuveiler along with Duke D Ashley Rape. Other collegian standouts playing with the Premier this season are Erin Scott’s Rice University’s teammate MF Ashley Lucas. North Texas MF/F Kelsey Perlman, incoming TCU Freshman MF Brittany Slyman, and Eastern New Mexico D Emily Simon were three more collegians Flanagan brought in that meet his standards. Surprise Long Island University D Sarah Laughlin and Mary Hardin-Baylors MF Mikaela Arredondo caught the Premiers staff eye in open tryouts. Ex-collegians D Jessica Maxwell (North Carolina) F Karen Oparaeke (Baylor) and 2009 California Storm F Kat Brenneman made huge impressions on Flanagan and his staff. The ultra speedy, highly skilled Brenneman has moved to the Dallas area this summer to play for the Premier as she looks to be picked up by the WPS.Open tryouts provided Flanagan the opportunity to look at other local stars and ex-collegian players still wanting to play at the higher level brought by the WPSL. D Melinda (Bullet) Carter, D Allie Rogosheske, and MF Chloe Adams were three championship minded players Flanagan chose to add depth and versatility to the squad.
Goalkeeper coach Will Searls will have 3 keepers to work with. 5-10 Haley Corbell (Dallas Baptist), youngster 17-year old Houston Eclipse Magen Ross and D’Feeter club coach Maegan Wilson will provide solid net minding.
